NeonCow's Collaboration with Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery

There’s nothing quite like the magic of neon to make a statement. This year, we at NeonCow had the exciting opportunity to work with one of the most treasured cultural institutions in the UK, the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. When they reached out to us in April, we were thrilled – after all, what better way to celebrate Birmingham’s rich history than with a bold, neon installation?

A Celebration of Birmingham in Neon

The Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery has been hard at work designing a new space dedicated solely to the history, art, and heritage of Birmingham. They envisioned a room that would not only showcase Birmingham’s iconic past but also capture the spirit of its present—a tribute to the city’s impact on art and industry. And who better to partner with than NeonCow, known for bringing unforgettable neon artistry to life?

The museum had a specific vision in mind for the centerpiece of this space. They wanted something large, vibrant, and unmissable—a work of art that would welcome visitors and convey Birmingham’s impact and pride. The result? A show-stopping neon sign that proudly declares “Made in Birmingham” in striking pink, installed on the main wall for all to see.

The Creative Journey: From Concept to Installation

The process of creating this piece was a journey of creativity, collaboration, and careful design. For three months, we worked closely with the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery team to bring their vision to life. Every detail of the sign was meticulously planned, from color selection to size specifications. The final design stretches an impressive 4.4 meters wide and 1.5 meters in height, dominating the room with its vibrant energy.

To make sure every part of the museum’s vision was captured, our design team engaged in multiple rounds of back-and-forth with the museum’s curators. The color pink was chosen not only for its visual appeal but also for the positive energy it brings to the space. When the sign finally arrived at the museum, we were thrilled to see how it transformed the room, perfectly capturing the soul of Birmingham’s history and artistry.

Since its installation, this piece has become an instant favorite among museum-goers and photography enthusiasts alike. The “Made in Birmingham” neon has quickly cemented itself as the room’s signature feature, drawing in visitors who want to capture their own slice of Birmingham’s legacy.
